We are excited as we continue our planning for the 2021-2022 school year. A key step in planning is the course request process. While we feel that full participation at one site, either in person or through the IUSD Virtual Academy (IVA), offers a more complete experience for students, there are times when a blend between the two programs is beneficial. As part of that planning, we wanted to share with you the options for students to “blend” their academic learning experience between our middle school sites and our IUSD Virtual Academy. The IVA course of study can be found here: IVA Course of Study.

Students who would like to take 1-2 classes at IUSD Virtual Academy can request courses through AERIES between April 19th and April 30th.  Directions can be found here: Middle School Aeries Parent Portal IVA Course Requests Form. Please note that these are requests only and are not automatically part of a student’s schedule. Additional conversations with school counselors or administrators will likely be needed within the registration process.

Key considerations for blending your educational experience:

  • Blends will be contingent on scheduling at both sites, including space availability.
  • Students will need to retain primary enrollment at either the home school site or IVA. Primary enrollment is defined at 4 classes.
  • Students can take a maximum of 7 classes between the two sites.
  • Honors English/Language Arts and history courses at IVA may be available for students who would be eligible to enroll in honors courses at their assigned middle school. IVA will have Embedded Honors opportunities in our ELA and History courses for all students. Our Embedded Honors offers interested and highly motivated students enhanced learning experiences and enrichment opportunities within their existing class. Upon successful completion of Embedded Honors criteria, students will receive an “Honors” designation on their academic records on a trimester basis.

Considerations for enrollment:

  • The student has an interest in taking a blended learning class and understands the expectations of such course work, including weekly online attendance and due dates.
  • The student requires scheduling flexibility for considerations such as: socio-emotional support, an internship, elite athletic obligations, and/or family circumstances.
  • The class is not offered at the student’s school (e.g. specific world language).
