November should be an exciting month for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing program at Venado! Last month, we announced our Battle of the Books teams.

Blue Team: Ben R., Breanna B., Joshua M.,and Cindy R.

Green Team: Uyen D., Noor J., Kauan G., Bina P., Noor H., and Aleena S.

These students have been busy reading 3 novels over the past month; Blue Team: Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys, Fuzzy by Tom Angleberger and Paul Dellinger and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl. Green Team: How I became a Ghost by Tim Tingle, The Unicorn Rescue Society: The Creature of the Pines by Adam Gidwitz and The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by Frank Baum.

As they read, students create studying materials and then meet every day at lunch and during Tutorial to practice as a team. The preliminary matches will take place at Venado on November 20 (Blue Team) and November 21 (Green Team). Each team will compete in three different matches via videophone technology against other DHH programs across the country. The top 15 teams will advance to the Play-offs, which will take place in December. Go Venado Knights!
