Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC), based on Common Core State Standards, will be administered at Venado between April 10 - May 6. The students will be taking grade-level assessments in English Language Arts and Math. SBAC tests will be taken via Chromebooks/computers through your child’s English and Math classes. There are four major types of questions that your child may see: multiple choice, multiple response, short answer and performance task assessments.
Students in grade 8 will be taking the first operational system of the California Science Test (CAST), an online test based on the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) on May 7-10 in their Science classes. The CA NGSS can be found at: http://bit.ly/CANGSS-2019
The SBAC and CAST Practice and Training Tests are available to the public at http://bit.ly/SBACCASTPractice. The tests are accessed by clicking on the Student Interface Practice and Training Tests resource tab. Once on the site, click sign-in, select grade level you wish to access, and then click “yes.”
Your child will be receiving instruction and practice on the types of questions that will be part of the SBAC and CAST tests, as well as instruction on the format of the tests. We encourage you to explore the practice tests with your child and discuss them as well. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to ask your child’s teacher(s).
