PBIS Orientation Activities

As a Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) school, it is important to teach the expected behaviors and define our Venado school culture from day one: Honest, On Time, Noble, On Task, Respectful and Responsible (HONOR). Students will learn to demonstrate appropriate positive behaviors throughout our campus (when it is safe to return) and also during virtual learning. Throughout these changing and challenging times, Venado is dedicated to creating a safe learning environment for all students while rewarding students for positive behavior. Positive behavior is acknowledged and shaped systematically through the use of Honor Cards, weekly prize drawings, monthly lunch celebrations, the Venado student store, and other incentives. Students will also learn about ways to be academically, socially, and emotionally successful in middle school by reviewing the Student Handbook, learning organizational skills, and study tips. Time will also be spent teaching students our emergency procedures, learning about “Expect Respect,” and reviewing expectations when using social media. During this time, our students will be introduced to our Social and Emotional Learning curriculum that will be conducted through Homeroom classes. This program promotes respectful communication and interaction among students, and teaches students safe and prosocial ways of dealing with disrespect.
