How to Keep Our School Safe

In an effort to further reduce COVID-19 transmission on school campuses, particularly as the Omicron variant surges, it is important for all of us to continue to do our part by following State and County health guidelines.  Please ensure your family is adhering to health and hygiene practices from the California Department of Public Health and the Orange County Health Care Agency to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Below are some ways you can help keep our schools safe:

  • If your student is suspected or confirmed to have COVID-19, please keep them home and follow the parent reporting instructions
  • A limited supply of test kits are available in the Health Office for students that need them.
  • If your student is 12 years or older and is vaccinated, please consider filling out the voluntary student COVID-19 vaccination attestation form, which will help staff to streamline and manage our contact tracing process.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use alcohol-based hand sanitizers that contain at least 60% alcohol.
  • Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue, and then dispose of the tissue and clean your hands immediately. If you do not have a tissue, use your sleeve, not your hands, to cover coughs and sneezes.
  • Limit close contact with people who are sick, and avoid sharing food, drinks, or utensils.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipes.
  • All students and staff are required to wear a face covering indoors while on IUSD campuses or visiting our facilities. We encourage all families to reinforce the importance of hand-washing, physical distancing and face coverings to limit the spread of the coronavirus.
  • Please complete the COVID-19 symptom screener on the “Daily Home Screening” checklist every day prior to your student’s arrival on campus. If any symptoms are present, it is very important that students stay home.  Please click on the following link to access the “Daily Home Screening” checklist, which is available in multiple languages: Daily Home Screening for Students. You may also click on the “Translate” tab on top of the page to select the language of your choice.
  • If a member of your household tests positive for COVID-19 or is awaiting test results, please keep your child at home and notify us.

If your child has any symptoms associated with the coronavirus, make sure they stay home.
