DEAFinitely Cool

pile of books

December was an exciting month for the DHH Program. Ten of our students competed in a national reading competition for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students called Battle of the Books. Students were divided into two different teams based on their reading levels. Using Videophone technology and Powerpoint, we competed against other DHH Programs like: California School for the Deaf Fremont, Alabama School for the Deaf, Washington School for the Deaf and New Mexico School for the Deaf to name a few. Both teams did an outstanding job and advanced to the play-off round of the competition that took place in December. We are very excited to announce that Venado’s Blue team (Breanna B., Joshua M., Ben R. and Cindy R.) beat out 30 other Deaf and Hard of Hearing teams and have advanced to NATIONALS! The National Competition will take place at Gallaudet University in Washington DC in April. Our Green Team (Uyen D., Kauan G., Noor H., Noor J., Bina P., and Aleena S.) also did very well placing 3rd out of 37 teams. We are so proud of this very dedicated and hard-working group of students. Go Knights!
