Dress Code

All students are required to attend school and school-sponsored activities dressed in a manner that is conducive to and promotes a positive learning environment.

A student’s dress and grooming habits are primarily determined by the parents/guardians with the following guidelines: Students are expected to be neat, clean, and wear shoes that are appropriate to the learning environment.  The following descriptions are of clothing or apparel that are unacceptable and are not permitted at school:

  • Any apparel item which violates the IUSD Non-Discrimination Policy
  • Articles of clothing or jewelry that are hazardous, obscene, offensive, degrading, make references to substances illegal for school age students, or are disruptive to the educational process.
  • Any apparel, jewelry, accessories, or manners of grooming which disrupt school operations or are associated with a group that advocates or commits unlawful acts.
  • Clothing with gang affiliation
  • Clothing which exposes undergarments; no spaghetti straps, strapless tops, halter tops, or bare midriffs
  • Clothing which is provocative or revealing
  • Pajamas (with the exception of a school spirit dress up day), slippers, or swimwear.

Hoods, hats, visors, or beanies may be worn at school outdoors only for the purpose of sun protection.
